ACADEMIC EDITING and INDEXING
As an academic editor, I’m adept at helping writers bring focus, organization, and polish to their scholarly prose. When your book manuscript is ready for submission, I can help bring the files and formatting to heel. And when it’s time to create an index, I’ve got you covered.
My clients are academics, dissertators (PhD and DMA), peer-reviewed journals, and nonprofit organizations. I frequently work with scholars writing in English as a second language; I offer a simple idiomatic edit to correct errors and a more in-depth intervention that includes commentary explaining the vagaries of scholarly English usage.
DESIGN FOR PROJECTION AND PRINT
As a musicologist and graphic designer, I bring a suite of skills to bear on design work with a specialization in serving professional early music ensembles. My projection design is carefully curated, thoughtfully designed, and nimble enough to present the same show at multiple venues with a single operator. Program booklet design and ancillary advertising materials for print are another specialty.
Clients include the Newberry Consort (Chicago), Blue Heron (Boston), Trobar (Cleveland), Severall Friends (Santa Fe), and Les Délices (Cleveland).
ABOUT KEENER EDITORIAL
keen ideas in focus
Keener Editorial took shape at the end of 2019, when I left a full-time, in-house editing gig to move home and help an ailing parent. Weaving together disparate freelancing threads from the realms of editing and design, the fabric gradually took shape: line and developmental editing, manuscript preparation, indexing, image curation, graphic design, projection design.
The throughline? Creative, intelligent, behind-the-scenes support.
I help scholars and performers put their best foot forward on their respective stages. For academics that means support right out of the gate (editing and MS prep) and in the home stretch (indexing). For performing ensembles, that means creating visuals for print (program books and ads) and performance (projections) that match the energy and mission of historically informed music making.
What are you working on?
If you’re looking for editorial or design help and think I may be a good fit, please drop me a line. I look forward to hearing about your project!
